Firefly Expansion

We really need some Rule explanations for Fireflys. Having to scavenge the internet and only figuring it out from some French Youtuber with auto-translate on wasn't fun.

In case anyone else is here wondering what the new rules are (besides the new spirits, they are actually explained already):

If you ever in a turn, make 2 spots that a spirit could go to, normally you'd just pick one of the spots to get the spirit and that would be it. Now the other spot will also get a "firefly" token on it. "Firefly"s score just like fires do, if they are connected to the bottom, +1 point, otherwise nothing.

Supposedly per a video I saw, if you get 4 Fireflys, you insta-win.

Having the Firefly Expansion active seems to force the Evil Spirit on as well. I at least very much dislike this and hope we get the option for Firefly On but Evil Spirt Off.

Thank you for sharing the answer to this - very helpful!😊
I really like this expansion but I agree with you that the evil spirit one is not fun. So I would also love two separate options please!

I have translated the rules from the rule sheet. I am not French speaking so I can’t confirm their correctness (I used scanning and the translate app on my phone). The grammar is not beautiful but it is understandable. :D

The evil spirit has another effect than usual with this expansion.

Here are the rules (and sorry if they are wrongly translated):

NEW SPIRITS

The cow: 1 point
1 point for each landscape tile of your second largest area in your landscape.

Phoenix: 1 point
1 point additional for each of your fireflies (no matter if it is visible from the bottom or not).

Viper: 1 point
Immediately take an isolated tile in your opponent's landscape and add it to your landscape. If your opponent has no isolated tiles, the effect is lost.

Fox: 1 point
Your opponent reveals the tiles of his hand. Choose the one he will play in the next round. He then takes back his tiles in hand.

ADDITION TO THE MATERIAL

7 Firefly tokens
4 new Spirit tiles

IMPLEMENTATION

Add the 4 Spirit tiles to the tiles in the base game.
Don't forget the Evil Spirit tile. Its use is now mandatory, but with a new effect.
Place the Firefly tokens aside, within the reach of players.
The rest of the implementation is the same as that of the base game.

DURING THE GAME

The great novelty of this extension is the use of fireflies.
In the same round, if it happens that a player makes multiple squares in his landscape. In this situation:
  • The first square will welcome a Spirit following basic rules.
  • Each additional square will accommodate a Firefly token.
EVIL SPIRIT

When a player chooses to draw two new Spirits, if the evil Spirit is present:
He places it in the opposing landscape, near a landscape tile (with the same laying rules as if it were a rainbow). This slot is now prohibited (When the player who welcomes the Evil Spirit captures the corresponding landscape tile, he removes it from the game).
To get rid of the Evil Spirit, it will be necessary to welcome a new Spirit into its landscape. Then choose a Spirit by following the basic rules, then send the evil Spirit back to the opponent, in the vicinity of one of his landscape tiles.

... and so on.

The Evil Spirit does not give any penalty to the one who welcomes it at the end of the game.

END OF GAME

The end of the game is triggered in two different ways:
  • The game ends immediately as soon as a player recovers his 4th Firefly token. In this case, he is declared the winner without having to count the points.
  • If no one gets 4 fireflies, the game ends, as in the base game, when the draw pile is empty AND neither player can capture with the remaining tiles.
Everyone counts their points according to the basic rules, with a bonus for certain fireflies:
  • Each firefly visible from the bottom (i.e. accessible by a tile path starting from the bottom line - red numbers) gives a bonus point!

Thanks for the translation!
I figured out the Evil Spirit differences and updated the wiki earlier to include a section for the Firefly Expansion.

The wiki is what you see when you scroll down while playing. The "Rules Summary" tab is really just a wiki any of us can update
