Improvement to 5th Level not taking Metropolis: I Completed Cities and Knights variant of Catan game 622953719 yesterday. I was on 11 points with lots of resource cards and another player was on 12 points about to win next turn. A couple of players were on Politics Level 4 - in a genius last ditch play I traded all my resources for 5 paper and was the first to upgrade to level 5. I upgraded the Cityand waited for the game to show that I had won buut my points didnt change.

The rules state "You may take another player’s metropolis if you are able to acquire the fifth level of improvement in the matching color before he does. If another player reaches the fifth level of improvement before the metropolis owner does, he may take both the metropolis piece and the colored metropolis token. If you have reached the fifth level of improvement in any area, no player may take your metropolis away."

It seems the online version of the game does not enact this rule.

It's because you were the first player to take that metropolis it looks like. You already had the 2 points from it so going to the 5th level doesn't do anything (except maybe prevent other players from stealing it later).

I've definitely seen other players take the points from stealing a metropolis by going the 5th level so it's worked before.
