Good Game? Was it? Really?

I understand the concept of being a "good looser". Certainly, thank someone for playing with you. And definitely NEVER leave in the middle of a game, just because it's going badly.
BUT... have you ever been in the game where your luck was so bad that what you REALLY want to say to your opponent is, "Dude, just kill me already and put my out of my misery"?
So on top of losing the game, I'm supposed to LIE and say it was a "Good game"? Um, no. Thanks for playing. And I actually WAS trying to win believe it or not. But was it FUN? No. When the best part of the game is that I managed to have enough self control not to throw my laptop computer out the window, then no, it wasn't one of my better games. Sometimes I wonder in amazement why I keep getting sucked back into these things. It must be an addiction.
That, plus I have to have SOMETHING to do while I'm waiting for that download to finish. Right?

I see "good game" or "gg" as a mere courtesy phrase, just as "good luck, have fun" or shaking the hand of your opponent after a football match. It's just something you do, and there's not that much thought in it.

Well, you could always say something else. Like, I dunno,
NerfHerder wrote:. Thanks for playing.
That would work
I agree, though. Lying about it being a good game is bad. Generally, though, if it gets to this situation, many players will accept a concede if you ask them. If you say you want to concede, and they request that you continue until you are ground into the dirt.... Well, that's a different situation.

Sometimes, when a game is too much imbalanced, it's boring for both players. When it happens to me (win or lose) I ask to my opponent if that's a matter I or he give up. I don't think this behaviour being a bad loser. Of course, I immediately propose a rematch

(sorry for my frenglish)

To make my views clear:
I have no problem with offering or accepting the game being conceded after it has been discussed in chat. With translation sites out there, this can easily be done even without a common language.
However, I do have a problem with someone just conceding the game with no discussion at all. This seems like a poor loser.
I also have a problem with someone who requires the game be played until the end, even when a concession has been discussed. Poor winners are just as bad (in my opinion) as poor losers.
Bottom line? If the game end is not in doubt, the conversation should be:
"Thanks for playing. You're going to win. Do you mind if I concede?"
"No, I don't mind. Go ahead and concede. Thanks for playing."
In my opinion, this warrants a green thumb. Just leaving the game (especially when there is still a chance of winning) or requesting an opponent who has admitted defeat to see it out to the final crushing blow will typically get a "do not play" personal note, and possibly a red thumb.
This is, of course, based on 2-player games. More players makes it a bit more complicated.

I am sorry, but as the other people who answered I do not see much the point of your post:
if it is that you do not want to say gg if this was not a good game, I understand and I do not think that anybody would blame you for saying "thanks for playing" instead. You should not leave a room without saying bye, that is courtesy, the way you say bye can be the one you prefer.
If it is about conceding a game, somebody already answered too ...
so what is your point?

When some time ago I played some computer game with real opponents and saw these "gg" everytime everywhere, I had no idea what is it all about. So when I happened to loose ready badly and saw "gg" from my opponent, I started to explain sth like "Hey, not good at all! I sucked in this game and made 100 stupid mistakes, so why the hell you are saying gg? Congrats on Your win, but no gg for me". As you may imagine, this caused some confusion and question marks about my psychological stability

Now when I am familiar with online gaming courtresy (or at least I hope so) I treat this "gg" really like "Have a good day" or "Cheers". I end my games with either "gg" or "thanks for playing" but I really do not care too much if all my opponents, win or loose, say anything after the game is finished. I also give green thumbs to all my opponents, win or loose, regardless of their "gg-ing" - simply for spending (sometimes - wasting) their time with me over the board. I have been lucky enough not to meet anybody deserving red thumb so far here - probably because this is great and friendly community, after all
