Question on Titanic Batteries+Natural Selection and Dominate situations

Hey everyone,

I have 2 scenarios I'm looking at where the rules, at least to me, seem ambiguous.

Situation one: Player has Titanic Batteries (TB) and Natural Selection (NS). Let's assume player currently has 8 health and on their final roll has ! ! * * * *. What triggers first: The option the TB and ignore one of the * before resolving, thereby negating NS 10 damage, or does NS trigger first, causing 10 damage and killing player?

Situation 2: Player 1 buys Dominate. Player 2 has 10 keep cards and elects to not discard any. Among the keep cards are several cards with passive effects, such as TB and "pull 1 * if no attack", among others. Does Player 2's passive effects, such as listed above, trigger even if Player 2 opts to not roll any dice at all?

Note: I experienced both of these situations on BGA so I do know how they handle these situations. I'm moreso concerned with Rules as written/ intended as I believe there is ambiguity in both the above and I disagree with the interpretation of the way both played out, although I could possibly be convinced otherwise.

Thanks for your thoughts everyone and happy smashing! :D

Situation 1: Natural Selection triggers first. It says “before you resolve any dice” and TB says “at the start of your Resolve Dice phase”

Situation 2: Yes, you can resolve 0 dice. TB wouldn’t be allowed to trigger since you don’t have 2 dice to ignore, but other things like Gentle Giant will trigger.
