Board Game Arena

I find with simplified scoring disabled (which seems to be most people's preference) it's often the case that you have a terrible first hand and then it's impossible to recover but you have to keep playing until the inevitable loss. I'm wondering if simplified scoring tends to make more even games, so that a bad hand isn't as devastating. Thoughts?
