why must i wait for 50% of the game to progress before i can concede? Things happen where people need to leave quickly and the other option of simply walking away and incurring reputation penalty which has a massive impact with arena and chatting etc. i should be able to concede much sooner and give my opponent some respect and giving him the win without the waiting for minutes and reputation loss.

Fully agree. On top of that, there are gameplay reasons to concede much sooner, since the game is already over, instead of wasting so much time dragging it out.

Assuming this question isn't rhetorical, it's largely to prevent karma and elo cheating, and to prevent poor experiences from people leaving games immediately upon starting with a bad hand.
