Question for more experienced players

So I've played five or so games so far. I'm very interested in the minimalist format and the characters all seem to offer fun opportunistic with simple rules but I've been wondering about something - there's nothing driving the game to conclusion. You're not required to make any moves on your turn and neither is your opponent. I've had it happen - and can imagine it could happen more - where the board settles on a kind of stalemate where either player doesn't want to move too much, or not at all. As a general design feature I dislike that - the game has a bit of entropy with recruitment but when each player has five character that dies out and it plateaus... I just wonder if more experience players find that they when they play with other experienced players the game drags longer and how often it enters what feels like a stuck situation.

It happens, but despite everything we play to win, out of my 65 games I only had 1 game that ended with a mutual blockade otherwise it was always played until victory
