It would be nice to put some background music, what do you think?

I'm all for it! It is well known that background music can influence our mood. If the music is chosen well, we are calm and cool.=)

Music streaming requires a lot of server bandwidth, as well as non-trivial licensing agreements. Why not just stream from a music provider in another window/tab?

I am of course in favor of this suggestion, but I don't know if there is some technical + legal possibilities here.
... given the fact that streaming from BGA server would cost us a lot, so we must stream from a music provider.
For example,
http://melodice.org/ provides a service that would be perfect, but I don't know if it would be legal to have it on BGA.

I disagree with this idea. Besides the licensing issues and the bandwidth problem for the server, there are other problems:
- Bandwidth problem for the players. Not all of us have fast connections. Putting extra traffic onto our Internet connections can interfere with the connection. Even if I mute the sound, the traffic is still there. (A couple of times I've timed out on games simply because a download started or something similar, slowing down the game information to a crawl. If I started the download, I have no-one to blame but myself - but if it's being sent by the game site itself then I have no way to avoid it.)
- Sound levels - music would make the game signals (it's your turn) harder to hear, and could be a disturbance to other people living with you. (I play in the evening, so don't want the music disturbing my kids - and headphones would mean I don't hear if they wake up.)
- Differing tastes. The music that might make me calm and cool could drive you crazy.
- Some of us enjoy quiet, respite from a world that has become too noisy.
If you or I want to listen to music, we can choose some music already on our computer, or on some other device. It's not something that other people should thrust upon us, no matter how good their taste might be.
