Sleep Schedule to Avoid Time Pentalty

Simple idea. Currently I'm afraid to play games on too many moves per day because of potentially being paired with people in other timezones. I played a game on 8 turns per day and accrued massive time penalties because everyone was from other countries and were active when I was asleep. I would get up take my turn and be lucky to get another turn in before night, but I would be the one with the massive penalty.

I also get frustrated at people only taking one turn a day on because I play on lower turns per day games.

I would love to be able to designate an 8 hour window where I accrue no time penalty to account for sleeping. Then I could confidentally play on more turns per day games without worrying about the clock ticking while I'm sleeping.

Thoughts?

All turn-based games 8 moves per day or faster already have a 12-hour playing hours window set. The other 12 hours are by definition non-playing hours or sleeping hours. So you already get 12 sleeping hours, even more than you want. You just have to pay attention to the playing hours set in the games you join, or create your own games and set it when you want it.

See https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=59394 for some suggestions to improve the implementation of playing hours. But for OP, the best way to use playing hours is from the "Play Now" lobby ( https://boardgamearena.com/lobby ). From the three drop-down menus select SIMPLE GAME, TURN-BASED, and MANUAL. Then when you see the games listed, if playing hours have been set they will be shown in bold (in the same time zone as your device), or else you can create your own table with playing hours (provided the speed is "Fast Turn-based").

I took a screenshot of the playing hours interface, then got distracted by work: https://imgur.com/a/To3aVoY

Sadly they first posted their suggestions in 2022, again in 2024 & 2025 all to be met with: This suggestion has not been analyzed by the developers yet

so it seems they don't find it an issue :(
