It happened a few times to me now that a player is out of time in a tournament with Multiplayer Elimination. Can someone explain what happens when a different player wants to end the game because of this?

An example: early on a 5-player game one player is eliminated because he/she is out of time. How will BGA decide which 2 of the other 4 players will progress to the next round of the Multiplayer Elimination tournament? And can I for example refuse to end the game if one of the other 3 players wants to end the game?

As soon as an overtime player is skipped, the outcome of that game is determined. It no longer makes any difference if people keep playing the game. All the other players are considered tied, but if anyone else needs to be eliminated, the newest player accounts are the first to go.

Sometimes one or more players will go overtime, but no one skips them. If the deadline for the tournament game is reached and no one has been skipped, the players that are eliminated are the ones with the least remaining time.

There have been many other discussions of this issue, and people have proposed different suggestions to help the situation. A popular suggestion is to forbid skipping players in a tournament game, since there is already a time limit for the game.

If two from five proceed to the next round and one player is skipped, then the two players that have been on the site the longest will proceed.

As a relatively new player who likes to play tournaments I've been in this position several times (not just "2 from 5" but also "1 from 3" or "2 from 4", anything that eliminates more than one player) and I'm always eliminated.

Some make tournaments where only one player is eliminated each round to counteract this. They're nice but tend to last long.

I would rather poke something in my eye than play this format. But having learned this lesson early in my BGA career, I exclusively play 2-player games now in tournaments.

With your registration date you would have proceeded to the next round in all the tournaments where I was eliminated after a skip of someone else.

I've read that people are not sure it goes by seniority, but it's done so on every occasion I've encountered yet so until I see otherwise I'm going with this being a rule.

It has been shown beyond a reasonable doubt, that in multiplayer-elimination format tournaments on BGA, where a game result is reported as a tie, seniority determines who advances. As far as I know BGA has never officially confirmed it, but no counterexamples have come to light.
