Bao moving down in the rankings isn't the movement we've expected! the race is heating up

If he stops like he did last season and doesn't try does it matter? Only reason he was 1 last season is because the guy who got over 1800 kept playing. Should always just keep playing. The guys at the top always quit for at least a month of the season, it's not the first time, won't be the last. Just play and don't worry about ranking. Play ranked so you play the better players.

I played a game with maznathan and the poorest sport llxSpartacusxll. The game at end had them tied 40-40 and me with 28, I used my die set to roll a 4 giving me 5 points and enough coins to buy the 6 colony card and the game finished 42-41-40 with me in second. llxSpartacusxll accused me of intentionally trying to make him last by setting the 4 , nevermind that it gave me 5 points and 4 coins. I play to win and I thought i was going to win, but I lost by 1, but he thinks that I intentionally made him lose. Then he told me to look at the leaderboard because that is what he cares about. Be careful playing him, if you try to win he will accuse you of trying to make him lose.

I have played against guys like that. Entirely self-centered and unable to think beyond their own skin.

So the leader when he posted this stopped playing arena for the last 2 months. Then on last day the people in second and third didn't even try to pass first even though less then 20 points behind. The top 10 of the leader board looked like people who quit playing...except they played regular to raise elo. Wish I could tell you what they were afraid of.

What's the point? If you aren't trying for first, what are you trying for? What do you get for not first that everyone else doesn't get?

I play arena for the competition. I have been #1 and kept playing instead of sitting out for months because, what's the point?

I see. So the big problem is not everyone has the same motivations as you, so them not doing what you would have done in their position is offensive.

Bravo. Not all heroes wear capes. Or maybe you do....

The thing is, I agree with the general sentiment of your posts. The arena system rewards people camping at the top rung. What other "competition" in the world lets someone be crowned champion by avoiding playing? So your ire should be directed at the poor incentives put in place by the structure of arena. But this display of celebrating the #1 losing their spot and denigrating #2 and #3 for not going for the top spot is unseemly.

I don't understand any motivation other then to have fun and win. If you will stop at second, third or sixth place, you are also most likely the guy who goes for second in a game. It's like in the example I posted in the other thread, a guy came in third and I came in second but he got mad because of what I rolled helped the other guy win, even though the setting of the die and my buying gave me more points then both originally had. I was playing to win and the other guy used an arrow to win. It happens.

Then you get guys like sparticus who quit halfway through the season and finish like 8th or 9th whatever. Then new season starts and the only chat in a 4 player game is me greeting everyone like i do in almost every game and then 5 lines of him later in the game whining because 2 did not roll and he lost. He moved the exchange on to 2 and had 6 rockets every time someone else rolled.....it did not roll and he had to let everyone know about it. He's a guy who plays for an imaginary pixel on a board game website. Not sure why that would motivate anyone. Maybe you are that guy like him who needs his name on the internet.
