moving the beetle

Hello dear community,
I have a question about moving the beetle.
The rule says that it can move one square vertically or horizontally.
However, when a beetle is on two other pieces (level 2), it can go straight down to level zero without going through level 1. Is this normal? Am I misinterpreting a rule?
Thanks for clarifying.

There may be a problem with the nuances of translation. "Vertically or horizontally" as you use them are both referring to directions parallel to the plane of the board. "Vertically" does not mean perpendicular to the plane of the board, i.e., up and down in 3D space.

Thanks for the clarification.
So you can go down 2 levels without going through level 1?

Yes, there is no limit to the number of levels you can go up/down with a beetle if it's allowed to move!
