Congratulations to all participants and winners from the previous season!
But wait, what exactly is "the Arena?"
The Arena is the
competitive mode on BGA. If you master a game and want to play it competitively, this is THE mode to use, so you can challenge the best players and get the most experience points.
The Arena is organized in seasons of 3 months each. Achievements are awarded to the best players at the end of each season.
To play in the Arena: select "Play" and then choose "Arena" instead of "Play"

Arena format and Gurus
In the previous seasons, it was
you (more exactly the
gurus) who chose the game formats for the Arena: player number, options used, ...
We are very happy to see that this way of doing things contributed to making the Arena more popular: thank you to all gurus for their smart suggestions and their votes!
Rules updates
No Arena rules are changing this season. It does not mean we are 100% satisfied with how the Arena is running, but you seem to appreciate the current rules so we want to keep them as they are for now.
Season 22 is NOW Launched.
The new Arena is now open for its new season.
Some Explanation About: Relegations
At the end of each season, after winners have been awarded, you are relegated.
Some custom relegation rules may have been applied to games for some reason (ex: we decided to update the number of leagues), but in general here is what happens:
- For games with 6 leagues: Elite players are demoted to Gold, Diamond players to Silver, and everyone else to Bronze.
- For games with 5 or 4 leagues: Elite players are demoted to Silver, and everyone else to Bronze.
- For games with 3 or 2 leagues: Everyone is demoted to Bronze.
- For all games and all leagues, your number of Arena points is reset to 1, and your EAS ("Elite Arena Score") is reset to 1500.
It's up to you to find the way to the elite!
May the odds be ever in your favor!
You will soon find below the updated options for each game for this new arena season

Goblin hood did not correctly award an arena champion even tho it shows me as last season's champion.
This is the second season that Goblin Hood did not award the top trophy, can this please be fixed? The last season has still not been awarded either. Thanks
Season 18 and 19 have still not awarded the top trophy for Goblin Hood. Please award these.

This continues to go un-awarded. Numerous posts, relevant bug reports, why has this not been corrected yet?

re abra chadabra, new season arena
I have only recently started playing abra chadabra and have sufficient ELO to join arena games. of course i am in bronze league. Am surprised to see lots of players in the elite league still; was there no relegation from elite at the end of the last season to the next league down? not sure if this applies to other games too?

I love Arena mode, it's probably the biggest part of my plays these days, but I'm still not sure how the number of leagues per game are calculated. There have been talks since forever about Ark Nova having just 4 leagues despite having 12k Arena players, while other games with fewer players like 7 Wonders Duel (7.5k Arena players) have 6 leagues. We've asked in the forums in the past, asked through suggestions, and still nothing is answered or changes about this. It would be really good to have a clear idea about how the number of leagues is calculated, since right now it's such a weird thing to see 3k Elite players in Ark Nova (heck, I was one, and honestly, shouldn't have been in there) and you see extremely one-sided match-ups because of it. Even Terraforming Mars which is quite a similar games, and had 6.5 players (and was also 2p this season) had 5 leagues, not 4. It's been 21 seasons, some clarity and some improvements are sorely needed...

Any update on how to deal with players that give red thumbs to high ranked players to avoid playing against them in arena mode?

Unfortunately a lot of players who become guru's only play games with 2 players, because they can play more games in the same amount of time as players who play with more opponents. This leads to a lot of guru's voting for 2 player games in Arena, while traditionally most board games are for more than 2 players. I hope BGA gives players who play with more than 2 players a bigger chance to become a guru as well. For example a double weight for 4-player games compared to two-player games, because 4-player games also take twice as much time to play.

Memoir’44 has changed to breakthrough format and it’s not working. No Arena games can be started.

The settings for the new season are set to Breakthrough on the Gembloux scenario (and only this one, for the whole season). Since BT is an alpha mode, all open arena games are automatically converted to simple games in friendly mode. Check the simple game list to see all the open tables.
