I am guessing this is a play on words, but I don't speak French. I was able to figure out Puces means fleas. And the directions say that the black cards are "chakapuces" cards. The Scratch and Catch name doesn't seem like a direct translation. My guess is that Chaka is supposed to be chaque meaning "each"? So flea each?

Sac a puces (flea bag) : a pet, in familiar language.
Sac (bag) > chat (Cat)

Sac a puces => chac a puces

And remember that the French "ch" is more like the English "sh" than "ch".
