I had no idea this was an official variant, but apparently it gives players extra corporations and preludes to choose from, which I think would be great:

Whenever I've played IRL, there was always 3 corps to choose from, and that's in various different unrelated groups. I was surprised when I started playing online and they only let you choose from two.

Web app lets you see 4 and you draft them. Same for preludes I think. Web app got it right, 100%. Probably still the most skill oriented platform to play on tbh.

We also play that way in real life, but that's a house rule.
Or rather, it was a house rule until the preludes 2 expansion apparently added it as an official variant.
