A bronze level player getting matched with elite players is absoutely ridiculous (Arena).

It happens to me repeatedly, in various games. is there no matching system at all?
I finally found the cog you all were talking about and was able to make the restriction changes. I thought the red door was the only filtration method. They certainly don't make it easy and obvious.

By default, Arena will match you with the first available player.
You can set your own filters to restrict this though, including only being matched with players at your own level.
When you are in the Play Now Lobby (
/lobby), then click on the Cog next to the game you want to play, then click on Show advanced options. The option you want is Player's level. If you click on the Change link there, you can fine tune your player level preferences.

Be aware that some games only have Bronze and Elite leagues, so if you set your preference to within +/- 1 level of yours, you may still get matched with Elites at Bronze level.

I don't follow, sorry. After bronze you become bronze elite?

There is no "bronze elite." In some games there are only two tiers: bronze and elite. So once you get your 10 bronze points you go straight to elite without going through silver, gold, etc.
But this doesn't apply to Castles of Burgundy, which you hadn't specified yet when nik responded.

Here's the thing, I did that already and It completely ignores it.
There are 5600 active Castles of Burgandy players, but it can only find elite players to match me with?
I'd be much happier waiting longer for an equivalent player than getting constant matchups with elite player after elite player.
Did you set it for Arena specifically?

Just to check, did you do this with the Arena cog? The player level settings are different to casual play and this can be confusing.
For the Arena ones you have dropdowns with gradients like "I never want to play with people far from my level" or "I am reluctant to play with people +1/-1 from my level".

Those exist in the cog menu for simple (non-arena) games as well. The problem is that "level" in those two contexts means something different. And many people think the simple game setting which is filtering by ELO tier applies to arena. But instead Arena filters by Arena tier without regard to ELO.
