How to Counter the Move Rush

Hey gang! TacTile King here - everyone seems to be having a lot of fun playing TacTile which is great to see. I wanted to post a strategy guide on countering the Move Rush because it’s likely the first winning strategy most people are running into. Let’s learn what it is and how to beat it.

What is the Move Rush?
Move rushing as the name implies is just trying to buy all move cards and win before your opponent gets their engine in place. It’s pretty effective at low levels because it’s so aggressive and requires skilled defense with small margin of error to beat. I think this is a great early game strategy for people to learn because it shows the importance of aggression in TacTile - you have to always be going for the win it forces your opponent to react to you.

Ok seems pretty OP is that just how I win?
Sorry TacTile’s not that simple. Move Rush is the easiest winning strategy to learn, but also to defeat. Let’s learn how it’s done

1. Buy a gain first - move rushing sacrifices late game potential for early game aggression - your goal is going to be to outbuy them

2. Strategically return pressure - you need to advance across the board so they fear you but you need to do it in a smart way
2A) what color moves are they buying? Can you try to move on the same squares and delay them? Remember you win the long game because of your gains so try to buy time
2B) don’t let them get both their pawns around yours. One pawn is fine you actually want them to score to limit their options but both is dangerous then they can win

3. Choose your purchases wisely -
3A) moves will be valuable - you may even be able to turn the tables with your gain so that you are move rushing them. Try not to let them get moves on other colors so they are easier to block.
3B) push - you’re on the defensive so definitely consider pushes - don’t buy pushes on colors you don’t already have cards or they will be hard to activate. Try to always push so that they can’t move forward onto a tile they have a move on. If both pawns are equal always push the trailing pawn (the one closer to their start). Separating their pawns is very effective for stopping their advancement & it’s easier to block a single pawn. Remember if they score 1 pawn it doesn’t matter it takes 2 to win and when they only have 1 pawn left it’s easy to block them.
3C) gains are also valuable but remember you are on the clock - i would be cautious of getting a second gain unless i know i can effectively slow down my opponent. In a move rush game i typically will only buy one gain unless they also get a gain (now they're playing my game so i want to get another gain to stay ahead in market potential) - this will now devolve into a typical complex late game where you are both competing for market potential and position. This is the dominant strategy of TacTile to always compete on both fronts and there's no easy answer to it other than if you aren't using overdrive you're at a big disadvantage

Good luck and let me know any questions!

If you can keep their pawn separate so they score one first, it becomes much easier to block and control their second pawn to give you time to build up your card deck to take the win eventually. Also don’t forget Overdrive. It can be very valuable to turn two actions that are only marginally useful to you into a Move or Push that can block their remaining pawn from finishing.
