I've played a few games and it seems a fun. Probably I'll buy its physical version but I was wondering what do you think about the game, balance, fun, replayability, difficulty...

I love how beautiful the cards are, and how all the interconnections between different cards mimic a real forest.
Each time I play it, it's different - because the cards that appear are different. So you can't have a strategy that works every time, because those cards may not appear until late in the game - or at all!
I love how I can play it in an almost meditative way, just enjoying creating a beautiful forest, if I want to - while another player may be playing very competitively. It's very rare to have a game where different approaches and styles of playing can co-exist, without spoiling the enjoyment for one or both players.
I'm looking forward to playing it irl with actual cards and seeing how different/similar that is.

The game base is not balanced. And instead of later expansions expanding the game, they served to balance it. This is the biggest flaw of this beautiful game.

Balance in this game is in the hands of the players. While it's true if one person draws all the deer and wolves, and the other player draws only bats and squirrels, the the Deer player will win.

Just like on Mah Jong or many other games it is each players' responsibility to watch what others are doing and to manage their own hand and discards to prevent others from getting the cards they need.

First of all, the game mechanics are unique and fresh. This is rare in the mass of games released every year.

I like the nature theme and the look of the cards.

Personally, I enjoy medium weight games a lot, especially if they use many different cards interacting with each other, because this leads to quite a different gameplay experience in each match and ensures a high rate of replayability. There is a lot to discover, and even more so with the expansions!

I agree there are better and worse cards or combinations, so the game is not well balanced. But as Jontia said: „Balance in this game is in the hands of the players.“ And I’d like to add: There is more than just one good strategy

Since you think about buying a physical copy, you might consider waiting for Dartmoor https://www.lookout-spiele.de/en/games/ ... -downloads, which is a separate game very similar to Forest Shuffle (also by Kosch and Lookout Games), and will be released at SPIEL 2025 this october. That one could be more balenced than the original game.

I like the simplicity of rules, and unexpected thinkyness of the cards. A lot of bang for buck brain wise - shallow learning curve and fun payoff once learned.

I wonder if designers could use AI to balance games. Get AI to play itself ten thousand times, figure out the winning strategies, then tweak the cards, play another ten thousand times, rinse and repeat until optimized.

Good animals. The artstyle ties it together well and the vibe is top. It plays quick and you have to remain involved, alot of other board games are a slog and this isnt. Good amount of complexity without becoming very tiresome and without being immediately repetitive and without including unnecessary ideas. I would describe it as simple to understand. it should include holographic animals. trees are forgettable. no willow tree.

I like the vibe the most.
