Why do tiles land on board with delay?

Hello, why were the animations changed some time ago (probably more than a year ago) so that the tiles now land on the board with a delay? This unfortunately slows the game down significantly. I just don’t understand it. Is there any reason for it? It’s just as incomprehensible to me as the newly introduced undo option.
