I'm assuming you're talking about real time games. Here are three ways to do it:

1) Choose games from the Play Now page (obviously the best way; see my signature) with the right (or bottom on mobile) setting on "Manual" (as opposed to Automatic or Friends). If there is a table waiting for players, it will show as a table icon on the blue button beneath the game. Click on that button to see a list of waiting tables that say "Open for joining" and next to that it will say "Real-time • Fast," "Real-time • Normal," or "Real-time • Slow." I don't know what the Manual page looks like for someone who doesn't have Premium, so I don't know for sure if you can set that preference if there is a Premium game (like Wingspan) that doesn't have a table waiting.

2) If you really want to use automatic matching, you set the right (or bottom) option on the Play Now page to Automatic, then click the gear icon under your ELO for that game, then select from the options under "Game speed." If you don't see options, click the link that says "Change" next to "No Preferences."

3) From the single game lobby, under "Game Speed" select "Slow" (left) or "Normal" (middle). On the single game lobby, do not...Do Not...DO NOT EVER slide the "switch" next to the speed setting to the right. This means you may have a preference that it will try to find first, but you are flexible to any setting. This is how you might randomly get put in a fast game when you really wanted a slow or normal speed game.

If normal or slow speed is still not slow enough, then only join games in "Friendly mode" or you have to play turn-based games.

Thank you. I apologize for game speed problem. I simply cannot remember to confirm my moves. I'm trying to do better. I wish I could practice with a solo game

You are Premium. You can set up a Hotseat game to practice using the interface of any game. You can find the Hotseat option at the bottom of the list of friends after you click the button to invite specific people to the table (either from the single game lobby or when starting a game from the Play Now page in Manual mode).
