I've played a few Patchwork games with a friend; I have premium, so I'm the one creating the game and inviting her to play. So far, every single time I had the starting move. Does anyone know if this is pure luck or if there is some setting that I couldn't find yet?

There's no setting. It's random. Play some more

And being the startplayer can be either lucky or unlucky depending on the start position!

If you start your next game with the "rematch" button, that should swap the starting player.

But also what RookworstWithoutR said -- moving first isn't necessarily an advantage in Patchwork.
