is it possible to cheat?

I ask this because as I am playing some games, suddenly an opponent all of a sudden leaps way ahead.
Recently I was playing Space Base. I was close to winning and the next person was 12 rockets away.
They did not have enough money to buy a ships card, and they did not have the ability to make enough to buy the one they needed to win in the next roll.
Then suddenly they purchase a card of significant value and gain 30 ships.
I looked at the log after the game to find out what happened and there was nothing to indicate how they gained 30 plus ships

Generally, no, it is not possible to cheat. Individual game adaptations may have bugs, but those are pretty rare on big games such as Space Base.
Try running through the replay from your opponent's point of view and you can see what he did to beat you.

I've never seen someone cheat in space base. It sounds like they either had arrows to get compound income across several numbers at once, or some of the cards that let you spend cubes to get big coin bonuses. Like the previous person suggests, replay the game as your opponent and see what they did.

Same as in online chess, by using a chess/board game engine that does computer calculated moves. Its just that there is no board game cheating engine, that i have ever heard of.

Over the last two rounds of the game, the opponent in question gained 20 points, 13 from buying the colony card for sector 11 and 7 from red rewards.
Most of their gold came from red rewards on sectors 8 (11 gold) and 9 (7 gold and activate sector 8). During the second to last round, the other opponent rolled an 8, earning them 11 gold, then they skipped buying a ship on their turn, then you rolled a 9, earning them 18 more gold. That 29 gold, plus their 3 income, plus small increments from the other rolls, gave them enough gold to buy the sector 11 colony card.
