Playing on an iPad

I usually play on a Chromebook but find that Ark Nova with the Marine expansion is a bit buggy in Chrome and sometimes hangs. To get round this I have to play in Safari on my iPhone but find the screen too small for comfort. So, I'm thinking of buying an iPad and would like to choose a configuration that works well with BGA. The technical options include the screen size, the processor, the amount of memory and the use of a stylus or mouse. Does anyone have some recommendations? Here's some questions:
1. The cheapest option is a basic iPad. Would the default amount of memory and the A16 processor be ok with BGA? My Chromebook can be a bit slow with a heavy game like Terraforming Mars, for example
2. A more expensive option would be an iPad Air with a 13" screen. That would have an M3 processor which is is about as good as it gets, I gather. I'm not sure how much memory would be sensible with this though.
3. Apple has a choice of stylus. The latest Apple Pencil has a hover option and I'm wondering whether this would work well with mouseover options such as icon tips, where they exist. Would a bluetooth mouse be better?
