Taking a reputation hit

Okay, new here. I did not understand how reputation works when signing up, or how to "leave" a game without taking a hit. It would be nice to have a "confirmed read" description on what is reputation and how to quit a game properly that each new member must check off (confirm) before they are allowed to play (not each game, but the first game ever played). This site is complex and not intuitive, and could use more guidance for newbies. Or maybe it's just me.

Abandon game and then all players agree to it.

The only way is to concede, which is only available in 2 player games. You can vote to abandon game, but no one is ever going to vote to do that. So you are either forced to play the whole game or you can leave but take a penalty.

In what circumstances are you wanting to leave a game?
