Arena interface changes

Sorry if I missed the announcement - but what is the new rationale of having to click "accept" to play arena games?
Also - with the change where you don't see your opponent until the game starts, it doesn't make much sense.
I get why you don't want people cancelling arena games if they can see the opponent is a much lower level than them, but if you can't see the opponent's level, what's the purpose of having to manually accept?
Some games take a while to get an opponent, and if you miss the clicking of accept it can take a while to get a game - previously they game would auto start and you'd get a notification and away you go. There doesn't seem to be a notification when the accept screen loads.
