Starting with points before game starts

Does anyone know why I sometimes start with 1 or 2 points instead of 0? Opponent starts also with1 or 2.
Is there a rule I'm missing ?

According to the pdf of the rulebook linked from the page, the first player starts with 1pt, the second with 2pts and so on.

This game really favors the second player by letting them start with more points and then giving them the win in case of a tie.
