2 players Arena

Why is the Arena mode set to two players for the second season in a row (I hadn't followed it before)? Is that the most popular player count? As for me, this is why I don't play Arena because I don't want to play "chess." 3 or 4 players would be great.

I concur. I was quite eager for Arena mode to go back to 3P for this season. Alas, it was not to be so. Alternating between 2P and 3P makes a lot of sense, and at least allows me to get my favorite player count (3P) in for every-other season.

ok, so for every game on BGA there are "Guru's" for each season.
the guru for any given game is the people who play it the most, in or out of arena.
if you want a vote in what arena is for next season, play the game more.

Yeah but 2p games are shorter so people who prefer 2p games have it easier to be gurus.
Furthermore, people who really dislike 2p, will mostly pass out the 2p season meaning that almost only people who do like 2p will be gurus.
That's a big part of why so many games are in practice locked into one configuration : people who like that configuration are more likely to play a lot during the season and therefore be gurus and therefore ensure that the configuration remains.

you can pass the arena season and still become a guru, it takes ALL games into account.
I've been Guru for quite a few obscure games that I've never played in arena.

I know but many players only or almost only play in arena once they qualify for arena.
At start of season, I pick a few games to play more than usual this season and that choice is partially based on the arena settings. I'm sure I'm not alone doing this.

I was merely pointing out how the website works for the ones who didn't know who chooses arena options.
You do you.

How do I "vote"? I've been told I was a Guru before, but had no idea what it meant. 3p is also my preferred player count for this.

You go here :
https://boardgamearena.com/gamegurus
(also accessible from the Community tab)
Then you click on "arena suggestions" next to the game you want to vote for.
(Only games for which you are a guru will be listed)
For each of the proposed settings, you can vote up, vote down or abstain.
You can also create your own proposal.
Then, at some point, there will be a second round of voting between just the current setting and the setting that got the most votes in the first phase.
