Board Game Arena

Hey all!

I just started playing some of the games on here and I like a lot of them. But I find myself not doing very well against other non-beginner players. Even unranked people who has more than 100 games or so. I would like to try to learn how to play the games better and I was wondering if there was a group of people on this forum that help out players like me? Or maybe just some simple advice. I tend to learn better through others teaching me about the game than through trial and error. That's just my learning style.

Overall, I was just wondering if there is a group of people... or maybe just one person, that would set aside some time and teach me about some of these games and how to be decent at them.

If you are interested in playing Hive, there is a group of players willing to teach. Watch for:
ringersoll, eucalyx, image13, fumanchu and others

I'm up for teaching you a wide variety of games if you want. As long as you've got patience and time. I'm not exactly an expert though so keep that in mind.

You might also want to create your own tables, with a couple of modifications:

*Turn OFF ELO - This should make more people willing to make non-optimal moves simply to show the effects of various moves.
*Change the representation to something like "Learning Game - Can you teach me?" - This should have people know at the beginning that moves may take a while, and that you may be asking several questions during the play.
*Change the speed to something quite slow - This will let experienced players be able to type and explain their moves without worrying about getting an out-of-time penalty added to their profile.


Also, you might want to ask in the public chat "Hey, can someone help me learn <game>?"

While not guaranteed to work (what is? ), it should help you find games with people who are more willing to help.
