Help, I don't really get how to get ahead of your opponent

I played one game but it's like no matter what we do, we still get to add one tile each beside the corridor. It's like the second player tend to lose by default and there's nothing I can do to change it...? I'm confused

Not every tile has to wind up adjacent to the eventual corridor. Look for way keep the corridor away from your opponent's tiles, and force the corridor adjacent to yours.
But yes, it does feel like a second player disadvantage to me so far. I haven't gone looking for any serious analysis of the game play, though.

At the end of the game, when the corridor is established, you are right. Every player will simply score one point in every turn.
But until then you have the oportuniity to redirect the path in a way it will touch more of your tiles and avoid touching some of your opponents tiles.
Often the crutial moment is when there are two gaps left wher the corridor could be and you close the one next to your opponents tiles and make the corridor take route where it touches your tiles.
In this situation, your decission will be easy. The real goal of the game is to reach such a situation where you can enforce the path ot take a rout where you have an advantage.
But yes, I´d still agree that due to the tie-braker, there is an advantage for the first player. So I´ve suggested to add the pie rule.
So if you feel the same, pleas feel free to give it a thum up here:
