What is the point of "Fewest VPs" king favor? it makes no sense

It is v nice game and good implementation, but just today I encountered new king favor (from extension) - "Fewest VPs".

Each player counts their current VPs, and players are ranked from fewest to most.

I do not get the idea behind this one. I mean it makes no sense for me.
The point of the game is to score as many points as possible. With this king favor you should try "not to be too good"? strange and against the core game concept of winning by VPs. Naturally you can just ignore it - and play to accumulate as many points as you can (which is normal). It this case it helps weaker player to outscore you. Makes no sense.

I think for competitive play this element is broken.

The Fewest VPs is always counted before end game points, and there are lots of ways to score end game points.

It is definitely an niche one, but seems to work more as a "catch up" in terms of a close game that could actually pull a person ahead.

Whoever has the fewest visible VPs from rooms gets first and so on. Doesn't mean they're in last place at all, they could have a bunch or high scoring bonus cards from the orange utility rooms that aren't known to the other players.
