Science multipliers in 7 Wonders

Hi,
In 7 Wonders you can score a lot of points in science because they multiply. If you have multiple cards of the same science card they square. So 1=1, 2=4, 3=9 etc.
My issue is that there are two ways to get an extra science card. There's a wonder card you can buy, and on 1 of the boards there's an upgrade of 1 extra science card. However, when you get them both, they do not stack! Why?

(I wanted to drop an screensave of the issue, but your add image option doesn't actually let you add an image). Please clarify if not multiplying the bonuses is a bug, or if it's a choice please make that clear in the rules (by stating on the board "this multiplier doesn't stack with the purple card.." or whatever)

They are should stack properly, if you talking about your last game you get proper points for your cards, but scientists guilds counted as guild points instead green cards points

Check if you scored the extra science points as guild points instead of science. The score never lies, but we may not always understand it. Another question related to the topic: playing with a board that allows an extra science symbol (Babylon and Carthage) you can theoretically score more than 4 full sets. 4 of each scores you 76 points, we have all seen this. Extra symbol would give you another, guild another extra, and Agora in the edifice edition could multiply that scientist guild as two scientist guild cards. This, and the extra symbol from wonder stage could actually score you 5 full sets of science. Am i right? has anyone ever pulled such a feat and how many points would 5 full sets score? 9 of each symbol as the 5th cards in chain makes the score go 16->25 points. Per symbol. that would then be 75 points, plus 7 points of each full set, 5 of them, making 35 points. 110 points on science? That's insane... Any thoughts?

That's a lot yes but it won't happen. You can also score 31 points for war with only one age 1 red card (and the appropriate edifice projects) but it also won't happen. These are so demanding conditions that I don't think it's actually insane, but it sure is a nice thought experiment.
With all the expansions, theoritically you can go beyond the 250 pts mark from science alone (and 50+ for war). But you need help from all the table and a very specific card pool. It's fun to imagine, though.
