It was fine as it was; I find the changes disorienting and distracting, especially the moving text on "This is the last draw phase of the season" - castin my vote to change it back if anyone is listening

I agree. I find the new layout unruly and hard to arrange. There are too many distractions.

Just came here for this.

Very distracting features (and not toggleable either, from what I see).
Also, it messed up with custom sizing (but that's a minor issue).

The highlightning of possible moves is not a quality of life enhancement, but raises issues of fair play (other games put this kind of help under playing options for that reason).

Indicators of seasons are useless. A player perfectly knows what seasons are and what they add to (as they know which seasons have passed and which is the current one).

The new overlaid piece selection is actually less clear and less pleasant to the eye (especially for the case of a 1x1 multicolor piece selection when you already covered your ruins; the pieces and the text are cluttered and distracting).

I'm a developer myself, so I know that you had good intentions with this, but it's clearly a downgrade in user experience compared to the previous interface (which was absolutely fine).

Always remember the old adage: "if it ain't broken, don't fix it" (or at least ask your user base first).

Agreed. One more vote for new interface is much worse.

Thanks for your reactions on the new changes! And yes I'm listening! Let me ellaborate why some of the changes were made. some of the changes were required because BGA is attempting to make the game adaptations more in line with each other.

Last turn banner
This is a new standard component provided by BGA that will soon be introduced into more games.

Highlight possible placements
Each week I get multiple bug reports saying the game is bugged because a tile can't be placed. They have to abandon the game, suffering penalties as a result. This is bad for the player experience, hence this improvement.

Future season scoring
A much-requested feature was that you were able to see future season scoring, to help plan ahead. This is now implemented, also seeing what edicts get scored in each season is a help to new players.

Tile selection moved to sheet
Before these were shown in the main title-bar, this is no longer allowed by the new BGA guidelines.

Preferences moved to default preference menu and zoom improvements
All preferences besides zoom control need to be placed in the default preferences menu. Zoom controls have been improved to have finer control over each area.

If you have concrete feedback that does not conflict with guidelines, please let me know and I'll see what's possible. These changes were needed because we'll soon be releasing new Cartographers content.

Thank you for playing Cartographers!

This is my first post in BGA forums. The new interface is not at all to my liking for same reasons that others have stated.

The worst change is future season scoring. That is one thing that separates better players from wors. Sometimes you might not realize that other tile is more beneficcial in the future and that should be up to the player to realize.

Just to clarify, not everything in your post was a change to comply with a guideline, correct? For example, the future scoring indicator doesn't seem to have anything to do with where a banner must or must not be displayed.

It might help to separate things into two categories: 1) compliance with BGA framework requirements, i.e., the change will not be reverted, and 2) changes that were intended to be a quality of life enhancement, but feedback will be weighed.

Hi Jansen, thanks for replying.

Please remove the highlighting of moves BUT especially the score calculation of future seasons (I hadn't even noticed that).

I understand that some people may have asked you for this, but it's completely against the gameplay and the game itself and I'm sure that the majority of players are disappointed with it. As someone else said, figuring out future consequences of moves is a core skill of this game.

How would you feel if you introduced a feature in chess that warns you that your move may lead to bad or good positions?

Please, this is going to backfire soon.

I also hope the change is reversed. I get a migraine from this new interface and I mean a real migraine episode. It’s so messy and hard to basically to even recognize easily and fast which season it is and which are the current scores. Takes so much brain energy and all the colors and figures are very irritating. Honestly, please change it back. If someone is unable to calculate their moves or place the pieces not all should be punish for it collectively with a horrid interface.
