Can I check how many order cards are left?
The number of remaining order cards is one of the end-of-game triggers. Am I missing something?

Isn't it listed next to the board in the same section as all the other end game triggers?

Yep, the number of remaining orders in the deck is shown at the top of the End Game Triggers section of the display.
