Backgammon

We are happy to introduce a new classic game on BGA: Backgammon.

Most board games on BGA are modern, but many players like to play classic games here to enjoy BGA functionalities such as replay, ELO, statistics, trophies... Thus we are happy today to propose them this new classic game for two players.

Backgammon is a dice game. The goal is to move checkers around, then off the board. The first player to get all of his checkers off the board wins.

On your turn, you roll 2 dice, and you can make 2 moves accordingly - one move with one checker, and another move or with the same checker or another one. You can only move on "free" positions, meaning positions that are not occupied by 2 or more of your opponent's checkers. If you land on a position with only 1 checker belonging to your opponent, you "hit" it and place it on the middle bar (and it has to start over from the beginning). Finally, if you roll a double (for example 2-2), you can do 4 moves with that value.

This very nice adaptation of Backgammon for BGA has been developed by Hubert Borderiou using BGA Studio. A big thank you to him for this nice work!

Enjoy!

We had a problem with our game. My opponent had no legal move because the only spaces he could go were blocked, yet the game required him to make a move before the game could continue (there was no option to pass). He had all of his checkers in the final quarter. He had checkers on the spot where you need a six to bear off but none on the five. I had multiple checkers on the last spot. He rolled a six and five and freed one of his checkers on the six. There was no legal move for the other die as he couldn't bear off any of the other checkers as he still had guys on the six but none on the five. He also couldn't move from the six to the one as I had it blocked. The system still said he needed to make a move but didn't give him a move to make. Just wanted to let you know about this glitch... Great work otherwise! Thanks.

Two requests:
- Match play and the doubling cube. The game is much more interesting with the doubling cube.
- Automatic move when there is only one possible move - this is common at the end of a round.

I had this same problem, also with a "5" when I had pieces on the "6" and my opponent was in my own "1". It caused me to time out (which shows as negative on my profile) and also gave me a game loss, when I would have clearly won the game otherwise.

I tried twice and a bug would not allow me to move.
Also, I'd be strongly in favor of a doubling dice and a three game contest.

I had the same problem. It was Game No. 10201154. I was supposed to start the match, but when I clicked on things, there was no response whatsoever. When I tried to refresh the screen, the board and pieces showed, but the chat box disappeared, so I had to log in a second time to communicate with my opponent about my trouble.

could we have the classic black and white piece's instead of these red and yellow eye looking thing? right now it looks less like backgammon and more like a clown having a nightmare about spiders

Thanks very much for adding this classic game.

The game is greatly enhanced by the doubling cube. Without a cube, games become a somewhat tiresome march to the finish. In conjunction with this, multi-point matches (e.g. 3 or 5) would be a great addition.
