Outlaw vs sheriff and renegade

I played few games where I was outlaw. I am playing vs sheriff and renegade. Sheriff is 5 hp and has 5 cards, rene is 4 hp and has 4 cards. Rene can focus sheriff but still focusing only me with everything they have got and make the game unwinnable for outlaws.
I usually still focusing sheriff or discard cards what I have got but lot of people start focusing rene in these situations and make the game unwinnable for rene. So I am asking: Is it fair to focus rene in these situations and let easy win to sheriff or is it way of cheating and ruining games?

Your win condition is for the sheriff to die without the renegade winning. Reducing the sheriff's health does not accomplish this unless you can kill them while staying alive, otherwise it's not playing to win, but playing for the renegade to win. Don't attack the sheriff without renegade support and make sure the renegade is not in a position to 1 v 1 the sheriff. If the renegade keeps attacking you feel free to soften them up. If your reaction to being attacked by the renegade is to keep attacking the sheriff you're just encouraging them to keep attacking you. Damage to the sheriff is only good with killing chances, without killing chances it is bad as it works for the renegade's win condition rather than yours.

Well, actually, it depends: sometimes attacking (and damaging) sheriff force him to go versus rene...
There are no rules in this case, imho...
