Board Game Arena

I've played a few Hearts games recently where the player purposely quits, stealing the full points of a win from another player. I was told to not call them out so I'll report them instead, thanks all

I already reported a player who did that. I think you should do it as well.

Doing it here (incl leaving the name in the first post), you‘ll get moderated, likely much faster than the culprits if you report them through the right channel.

Please delete the name of the player from your post. The moderators will penalize you with minus 50 karma and a 24-hour chat/post ban.

The forums cannot be used to call out players (unless you are okay with the penalty).

I have never quit a game when I was losing, however I have lost my internet connection & had the game say I quit.

when they quit, is their ranking affected? so annoying.

This just happened to me as well, with just a few cards left to play in an Arena game and the relative order of the game set in stone. I'm such a case, instead of neutralizing the results for the winners and only penalizing the quitter, since the play couldn't impact the result couldn't the game still be used?

In what way? I mean, how would you write a computer program that can evaluate whether the result is "set in stone"? Someone could be at 1 point and make a big comeback and win. Someone could be way ahead and then eat 25 points.

There is no good way of dealing with quitters in multiplayer games. Any way of dealing with it will end up being unfair to one or more people.

(This is why I rarely play Hearts or 3-player games here. It's just too frustrating. I save those games for physical games on the dining table with friends. I realize that is not helpful for people who wish to play such games here on BGA.)

It just happened to me again. 2 cards left to play. The game was literally over, which is what I mean by "set in stone" -- it doesn't matter how the remaining points are distributed, but the complete order is determined and the game is guaranteed to end that round. E.g.
PLAYER | POINTS BEFORE ROUND | POINTS DURING ROUND
player 1 | 5 points before | 13 points during
player 2 | 18 points before | 10 points during
player 3 | 15 points before | 0 points during
player 4 | 30 points before | 0 points during

It doesn't matter how the remaining 3 points are distributed. The order is determined and the game is over. Multiple times I have been in the player 4 situation here, and the player 1 quits in frustration of the queen dropped on them. And as a result, I score 0 points for Arena or overall. Yes, player 1 is penalized for this. But it's very frustrating for the top player as well who is harmed.

Agreed, that is a major problem here.
