Board Game Arena

Hi all, I am fairly new here, been playing for a month. The site feels very buggy, does this resolve itself with upgrading and paying? I am happy to pay, but not for something with so many issues, I have been informed I have left games early, penalties to reputation threatened etc, and never my fault. Happy to pay, it doesn't feel like a lot, but not going to do it if this is the quality, I wouldn't pay for a coffee that was rubbish or never turned up.

Being a premium member is not going to change bugginess.

Premium wont affect bugs, but tbh I never had abandons and/or reputation issues due to bugs. And I read that the times when bga faces major issues, the penalities get canceled automatically

Australia has well documented issues with slow internet speeds, connection dropouts, and unreliable service during peak times. Your problems aren't being caused by BGA or rubbish coffee. Try upgrading to Starlink. G'day.

I do not know how serious the problems in Australia are, but the bga has been having a lot of problems for the last month. Frequent page freezes, errors, and occasionally a complete shutdown.

This has never happened before, I hope it's all over soon.

I don't know. It never happens to me. I haven't had any problems in the last month or any other month.

I agree that there were more problems lately than I was used to. They mostly don’t really affect me bc I mostly either play turn-based games or play real time with my family so I just check in later. Nearly all of these have the “problems with BGA service” banner so I’m positive it doesn’t have anything to do with my connection. I’ve had these problems like three or four times in the last 30
days so that’s nothing that would ever make me cancel premium. If I was playing real-time all day, I guess I’d be affected by more of these outages. With that said, if you experience problems more or less all the time, it’s your connection, browser settings or whatever that can be wrong on your end.

Maybe BGA should bring in some renowned consultant if there are problems they're not getting past. We can't have comparisons to rubbish coffee.

It probably depends how and when you play. I haven't had many problems, though I have seen occasional points where the site was inaccessible, or there was a banner displayed indicating BGA was currently having problems. However, since I play exclusively turn-based, this is annoying, but not catastrophic to my gaming.

But in general, despite the "well-documented issues with slow internet speeds, etc." in Australia and the fact that I also live there, I too, am not seeing what I would consider severe problems. My feelings might be different if I played more RT games, especially during peak hours (I suspect my hours are probably often in "off-peak" for people in other parts of the world).

Outside of rural areas (which is a matter of infrastructure and probably also affects people in rural areas of other countries), I don't think there's much of an issue with Australia's internet, especially for this kind of usage. Yeah, ok, our speeds are sometimes slower than other parts of the world, but generally not to the point that you particularly notice unless you're trying to do something which requires a LOT of bandwidth.

I too only play turn based, although sometimes it "goes live" and turns are taken in rapid succession for a while.

I have noticed the maintenance banner being up a little more frequently lately, but usually I can keep playing while it's up.

Yeah, it's probably not an internet issue. Mongolian internet is even worse than Australian internet.

BGA programmers are wrangling with management as we speak. "No, we got this... No, we got this..." (while not getting this).

Maybe activity has grown to the point where it's straining infrastructure and creating bottlenecks. Or recent changes weren't 100% compatible. Who knows?
