Not much variability

I’ve noticed that there aren’t really too many combinations that actually have a chance of winning,

It seems the best card objectively is the mine, as hand size is just way to impactful. By reaching 6 cards you allow yourself to gain another card per round and potentially score.

I noticed there seems to be 2 main ways to win, one of which is the points based off the market, where the red card in the market seems to be a strong path, and just giving away all your reds makes it hard for them to counter such playstyle.

Another way, which I found the most effective, is just to buy a mine every round, or a crate if there is no mine, then getting 2 gems. After having 2 or 3 mines/crate and 2 gems, you effectively just win the game via perfect combo, with some simple planning the round before.

There seems to be some other leaders that are just purely for fun and don’t actually have much a chance to help you win, atleast not the majority of the time.

I find it bland now, that every game I can win most of the time by just buying mines and gems, holding my pickaxes and having pretty good shot at perfect combo before they can reach 50.

I think the cards would need some kind of rework in an expansion. As the gameplay seems very simple to me atleast from a 2 player, trying to win perspective.
Altho, having an expansion to fix some flaws is not the end of the board game, take Star Wars rebellion for example. They reworked and fixed the entire combat system. Which almost completely changed the way the game is played. I think this game has potential.

Much like Nidavellir, I think the strategies become more compelling with increased player count. At two players, mines can definitely be OP - but I feel like veins become much more valuable at 3 or 4. Or if someone is honing in on mines, someone else will get the dwarf that awards extra aare for green cards or clearing the market.

Or not. I'm more instinct than thinky when it comes to games and I only have one win in this out of like 20 games played lol

Agreed, and I hope future arena seasons will have 3-4 player for more variability.
