How bidding system work?

Hi, I'm a beginner on this game, most of my play was random faction.
I try my 1st game on arena mode this season, the first move is to bid on coin, are we using our starting coin resource to bid?

Welcome! No, you’re bidding endgame points. So if you bid 10 on a specific combo, you will lose that many points at the end of the game. It’s meant to help balance the differing strengths between the combinations.
