You're no longer allowed to pick a character in Arena today? Seems like a weird change to do in the middle of a season.

Looks like it only stuck around for a little bit. It's an interesting concept, but I think being forced into a matchup that is nearly unwinnable is rough. Also, you have to really know Pyre if you're going to play him, it's not something that you bring into a blind matchup imo.

I'm in favour of random character select for a competitive format because I feel that it's better to reward someone who's adept at all character matchups rather than just specializing in one character.

But I also agree that it shouldn't change mid-season. I assumed that a new season would start Apr 13 but I guess with this game having just arrived the first season is going to extend into a full 90-day season.

I hear that, because it's likely to be one way or the other the same and navigating those matchups would lead to interesting games.

I would say for the next arena format if we want to see more variety of characters just set it to legacy. Cool to see teams and what combos of abilities people come up with.

I'm also a fan of legacy random character as the best arena ladder format. Gives variety, rewards flexibility, and having 3 characters reduces some of the RNG. Sure, you'll get unlucky sometimes with characters that don't have any good passes to each other but none of the characters in the Massiveverse set are super weak or overly specialized to the point you can't make them work at all.
