Fun game, but do new players always experience the worst possible rolls like I do? Wondering if its a breaking in mode

A big part of the game is trying to set up your position so that you, as far as possible, can reasonably use any roll you get. Of course plain bad luck happens, but if someone seems more lucky than others, it is often because they are better at making situations where fewer of the possible rolls are bad.

A straightforward example: by shifting lanes, particularly when coming out of a curve (where you can often move to the inside of the curve and then, on the straightaways shift back to the other side of the track again), you have some flexibility over where you end up. If you roll an 10 you can move 10 spaces down the track, but you could also end up only 8 spaces… and then greater flexibility is given by drafting or other extra spaces (like soft tires in good weather)… and then you can also brake if needed.
So take all that flexibility and then start looking at how your next move is going to play out. Maybe if you go as far as you can right now, you’ll run the risk of a 4th gear roll putting you past the next turn, but if you hang back a couple of spaces then any 4th gear roll can be made to end your move in the next turn. Or you could at least minimize the risk (“I’ll overshoot on a 12 but any other roll is fine”) instead of ending in a situation where you have a 50/50 chance of overshooting.

I’m talking about going into last turn with lead and only roll that wont get me there in 4th gear is a 7. Roll a 7. Then next turn only roll that will spin me out in 3rd gear is an 8. Roll an 8. Lose race

Are you suggesting it should never happen?
Or it should happen to others but not to you?

No. No. 1/30 chance for rolls to happen like they did. Just saying I got very unlucky.

But you left yourself in a situation where you had no gearbox WPs left and no brake WPS left. This is the sort of thing NoHatCoder2 and I were trying to say earlier… you left yourself without the resources to be able to handle a situation like this.
But you did have tire WPs left so if, the turn prior to these turns, when you rolled the 18 that put you on the last space of the prior turn? If you had actually overshot that turn by one space and taken one tire WP hit, then no 4th gear roll could have made you fall short, and you would have cleared the next turn without a spin out.
Mind you, there was still a 3-stop turn between you and the finish line, and I cannot begin to predict how that could have shaken out for you…
