Seahorse should only be a joker for one set of animals

Basically the title. Just lost a round where my opponent had three cards: seahorse, sailor, and a shell. Why is it worth so many points. It'd already be the strongest card in the game without that.

It does only count once. If you had 3 cards in your hand, a shell, a seahorse, and a sailor, you would have 5 points. If instead, you had a shell, a seahorse, and a fish, you would have 2 points. It counts once as whichever collection card would grant you the most points at that time.

Shell would count aa 2 if dances of shell is in play
