Heard recently from another player that they think pieces (in a final solution) cant be flush with each other aka "touching"

They said corners were ok though.

I had though that I'd had final solutions before where pieces touched but I don't remember!

Drop your thoughts or proof of pieces touching in the chat

They cannot. Corners can, but edges cannot. That would make it really hard (or maybe impossible?) to ensure that the solution can be found within the possible questions.

I do not have my physical game with me right now but I am almost certain it's in the rules there and I believe it is a rule in BGA as well. I remember trying to put them together and the game not letting me.

Here is the relevant section from the official rules:

d. The edges of two pieces cannot directly touch. Only the corners and lines within the board or between pieces may meet.
e. No piece should be completely hidden behind other pieces when viewed from the board’s edge.
f. Two white gems cannot be placed in a perfectly symmetrical arrangement along the vertical or horizontal direction.

Rule d addresses the question raised in the original post. However looking at rule f I am a little surprised because I definitely remember boards where the two white pieces had a common axis of symmetry, but I will keep an eye out for a specific example.
