Turn order - Multi Player Games

I'm new here, so perhaps this has been discussed before.

In multiplayer, turn based games, in particular tournament games, there could be some efficiency in time if the player sequence broadly followed the order of time zones around the globe.

This observation is based on 2 games.

in one case there were 4 players - 2 USA, 1 Philippines, 1 Spain - the turn sequence was in that order and while it would usually take 24 hours to go thru a turn it worked well.

Another current 5 player game has the player order sequence - USA, Europe, Asia, USA, Europe and I suspect it will take more that 24 hours to get thru each round of turns.

Interesting observations, but also realize that time zones don't necessarily dictate an individual's actual playtime. (night shift workers for example.)

Also, if something is programmed not-random, SOMEONE will find a way to exploit it.

This makes sense, but given that depending on the game, certain positions are more advantageous than others, I think it's more right to make the draw random in every case.

If there's too great a risk of the game timing out, it's up to the tournament organizer to take that into account when they select game duration.
