Playing Solo w/ more than one character

Maybe I am missing a magic button in the setup of a solo game, but even when you have "2 characters" in the drop down, only one pirate is showing up in my games. Anyone, please let me know what setting I am missing in setting up at least 2 pirates for a solo game. Or is this a setting in the Beta that is not working yet, maybe? TIA
