Hello,
I’m new here (and I like it , being here, not being new !)
I keep getting a number of “XP” for different reasons, that’s really nice, though I have no clue what it means or what they are for....
Can’t find them in the FAQ either

They aren't really supposed to mean anything. It's just XP, a number of points you get for doing certain things. Usually you get more points for things that are more notable, but there isn't really a strong logic to it.

In some video games you get eXperience Points (usually shortened to XP) for progressing and this can help level up and things.

They're not really "for" anything on BGA - just a small reward for doing things on the site

The way some people react to not getting the XP they think they deserve, you'd think they get tax credits for them or something.

You're all way off base here.

The XP is far more crucial than any of you apparently understand.

It's all about bragging rights and prestige. Go out to a bar or club, start conversation. Before long, BGA will come up in conversation. Then, surreptitiously bring up how many BGA XP you have. Next thing you know, you're bringing home some top shelf attractions.

I mean, duh? Obviously? Come on!

It's simply a measure of how much Arena you've played or played well. XP given for anything else on the site is trivial and meaningless.
