Commented replays for analysing play patterns

Got this idea from this post https://boardgamearena.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=49948 by branchilo. I thought it might be fun to go through a replay of mine too, and comment on my reasoning for each important play. Maybe it would be helpful for some players who do know the rules, but struggle a bit with reaching higher ranks in arena or all time ELO. Or maybe there is someone who enjoys this type of thing. Regardless, it was interesting to do and gave myself some new insights.

So here's a replay I chose for commenting (right click to open to new tab, then click the checkbox that enables the comments, and choose my perspective): https://boardgamearena.com/gamereview?table=867550733

This replay and its comments highlight:
  • How good and flexible Frigga's Succor is
  • How hard the game is sometimes - it's pretty normal for everyone to make many mistakes, even at higher ELO
  • How tricky going for Ygg in age 1 is
  • How to use Succor to pivot to full Loki after pillaging Ygg once or twice (another under utilized tech is using Blessing to pivot from Loki to winning many combats, not seen here unfortunately)
  • How much comeback potential age 3 ship upgrade together with Frigga's Domain has.
If you have a replay of your own that you feel like it might be interesting, and don't mind taking the time to comment it, please do!

I wached the replay and quite enjoyed the comments and the game. 🙂

That battle with Valk and Judgment Day was a great example how those 2 combined can earn valuable points. Especially when the win is decided by just a few points, when each point then counts. Once I started playing the game, I didn't pay much notice to such cards, always aiming for the high-point ones even when it was unrealistic. Staying real and adjusting your appetite to the situation on the board is one of the hardest lessons to learn, I would say.

To that also belongs the fact that you didn't even try to pillage a stat and then use the Sacrifice. 🙌 I didn't calculate in detail if you needed that one at all, but I really like how you stayed true to your plan.

It must be said that you had some really nice draft choices, but you also managed to utilize them. 💪

The way you explained the Ygg choice in Age 1 was also a lesson to remember: "If I don't get it - no one gets it." 🙂

Thank you for posting the link to my thread as well. I am really glad it served as a motivation to invest some of your time to make the game more understandable for the enthusiasts. 😊

Hello again! Trying to keep this post alive, as i really support the idea. 🙂

I have been wondering if it would be allowed to make a yt channel around such an idea? To share the replays directly from the platform and comment live?
