Final score - Why is it 1 and not your actual final fame score?

Great implementation - I've only just picked up the physical version on a whim a week ago.
Perhaps I am missing something, but why is it that we don't get a "score" as such at the end of the game, but rather everyone gets 1 and then the Fame score decides the overall winner?
When playing in IRL and keeping stats, I have noted players fame score as their "final score" for the sake of averages and the like. I have noticed that when importing plays from BGA to BGStats that it does not affect or alter my average score stats at all, which is nice (as otherwise, the BGA scores of 1, regardless of the result, would lower your overall score average), however, I would prefer it to be the actual score from the final round.
I'm sure there is a reasonable explanation as to why this is the case, just curious to know what that is.
