Arena active play

There is an issue that has been bothering me for a long time. I have noticed that there are players who play at the beginning of the season and rise high in the score and ranking and after they get ahead of the others they stop playing and thus do not risk losing points and playing in the ranking. On the other hand, there are players who play too much and as a result there is a constant change in position in the overall ranking. Shouldn't there be a minimum number of games per day or per week to be able to stay in the arena?

Even though I may agree with this sentiment, there are several other threads for years already discussing this. Search for "Arena decay" or even just "decay" as "Arena" may be an ignored word in the search function.

Why should we discourage players playing at the beginning of the season? If they stopped playing, then there's nothing defending their rank when other players pass them.
