Time bullies

I think there should be a category in reporting where one could tag player as time bully. It is quite often a strategy of players (at least Catan cities) where, when they do not win, they bully players on time - it is sometimes really just a matter of seconds when in complex turns, that people kick people out in the midst of move… start by pushing and just keep klicking expell…
Is that not a way to gain rank irregularly?

Oh ... It's not about bullies who time travel ...

So ... Isn't there already a way to report players?

If they try to kick you out when you're out of time, there's nothing to report, no matter how complex your turn it. Play faster, or join games with slower time settings. At worst, it's a bug/issue in the game that should be directed to the developer.

If they harass you and press you to play faster while you have time remaining in your clock, that's a reportable offense (user misbehaving in chat).

Idk, you agreed to play within a given timeframe, violated that agreement, and are complaining about other players having an issue with it? That seems more like time bullying to me. BGA has given very one a tool to expel those time bullies from the game and apply an additional rating and karma penalty to discourage them from doing it again. They can choose not to use it if everyone agrees that the player going over time was ok for now, but that's still only at everyone's discretion.

Several counter arguments.

Bga gives a 20 sec grace period after running out of time. You can argue this shouldn’t even exist. But it does. So players feel entitled to that 20 seconds and if someone is spamming the expel button then one can argue they were stripped of their right to the extra 20 seconds.

Particularly in catan your opponents can use your clock on THEIR turn by offering continuous trades that you must then act upon. But you didn’t create this action so this aspect is weird and game specific.

Bga has one universal clock mechanic for all 1400 games. But as you can see having a clock that gives the same amount of time on the first move as it does in the last move for games that have increased difficulty as they progress is problematic.

Overall I think bga gives too much time across the board. But there are issues as it pertains to this topic.

If someone is repeatedly going over time and the expel option is getting smaller, a player can claim they're "entitled" to the 20 seconds all they like, it existed initially, and now it doesn't. The same argument to be made that they have it can also be made to take it away.

The matter of continuous trades is going to come down to context. I read the continuous expels as "they keep trying to expel me on my turn", though if it's a matter of someone offering absurd trades over and over as some form of Catan specific clock manipulation to try and shoot down time, that's a different matter. I believe there are countermeasures to help deal with that, like certain buttons to help ignore trade offers when dealing with absurd stunts, but you'd have to check the Catan forums to confirm. That sort of thing might have a case for bug manipulation, but again, that's probably a topic for the Catan forums to verify the details on how this works.

I agree there are games that should have different clock rules to account for specific factors in that game.

100% I am sick to death of PAYING for premium, and I start the game, I set the time... And due to complexity of game AND Internet connection being what it is in this vile city I live in .. WHY do I get time bullies then penalized by BGA itself.

Time for a change.

If I am active in a game, and it is clearly complex, and I started the game, then why am *I* penalized. If people wish for a faster game, make your own, or quit.

BGA STOP 🛑 treating paying members with such blatant disrespect.

Because you committed to playing within a certain time period when you started the came. You broke your commitment, multiple times, by the time anyone could actually kicked you out.

The better quesiton is: Why did you commit to a timeframe you couldn't fulfill? Why not choose a turn time that better fits your speed of play? Why make compliant players suffer because you couldn't keep your commitment?

You set the time, then failed to meet the very standards you set? It doesn't look like the opponents need a faster game, you're the one that seems to have a problem with the clock. If you wish for a slower game, then make your own, don't complain about failing your own clock.

Being a premium member doesn't give you the right to cheat everyone else.

How about show in player’s stats how they treat time… how often one skips other people’s turns, how often one pushes time to last seconds (like when protesting, and slowing the game…)

I think our civilisation fell appart when people stopped agreements. When you push other people any direction - time bullyng both in a way to force expell them, or time bullying in a way to slow the game on purpose… one can always say it is by the rules… but it is really not a fair sporty play, and I would like yo imagine ways to tag or be able to avoid people who do that often.
